Allen was part of the NFL’s All-Decade team as an offensive lineman for the 1990s and 2000s.
One of the great offensive linemen in NFL history has passed away. The Dallas Cowboys announced on Monday that former guard Larry Allen died suddenly while vacationing with his family in Mexico. He was just 52 years old. A second-round pick out of Division II Sonoma State, Allen became the first player ever drafted out of that school when the Cowboys selected him in 1994.
Allen was an 11-time Pro Bowl player and a seven-time first-team All-Pro selection. He won a Super Bowl with the Cowboys in 1995, and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 1990s and 2000s. His offensive line teammates for the 2000s included Seattle Seahawks greats Steve Hutchinson and Walter Jones. While Allen’s best years were at left guard, he also played right guard, right tackle, and left tackle. His final two seasons were with the San Francisco 49ers, before retiring in 2009.
