The heat index is projected to stay high this weekend, with a max range of “feels like” temps from 105-110.
North Texas has been under a heat advisory since Monday. But cooler air is expected to lower temps a bit by Sunday.
UTD students Jerin Pullan and Naveen Georgi shade themselves with umbrellas as they walk to a store near campus on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023, in Richardson. The high of 109 Sunday tied for the hottest day of the year with Thursday and Friday and continuing a streak of extreme heat so far this summer. The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for all of North Texas through Monday.
While this week has been a hot one, the summer has been milder than the last two years. Sarah Barnes, a meteorologist with the weather service, said Dallas has had eight 100-degree days so far this year, significantly down from 54 in 2023 and 47 in 2022. Barnes said the annual average is 20 days over 100, which the region may still approach with August looking to be a hot month.
“This heat is hard on all of us, but even more those who are struggling financially, physically, or mentally,” said Paul McFarland of The Salvation Army of North Texas. “Our doors are open for all individuals and families in need of a place to cool down.”, Breaking News Reporter.
