The English teacher was placed on administrative leave after an April 15 walkout students held to highlight safety concerns.
Tiree Dean taught English at Wilmer Hutchins High School, where a student recently shot another teenager during class.
Dozens of students walked out of class a few days after the shooting. Dean was among them. On the day of the protest, he gave interviews to TV stations about the need to keep the kids safe and the lack of sufficient communication on the day of the shooting.Then he said he was called to district headquarters.
“In this instance, yes, the metal detector went off, and there wasn’t a challenge. There weren’t the secondary steps that should have happened,” DISD Police Chief Albert Martinez said last month.In response, district officials outlined plans to beef up training protocols and procedures.
