The city says the outages mostly impacted police and fire computers.
knocked out at least 90 Dallas police and fire computers Friday, but didn’t appear to have a serious impact on major services, the city’s top technology official says.
Brian Gardner, Dallas’ interim chief information officer, said the city’s 911 and 311 lines weren’t impacted but the technology outage caused by CrowdStrike crashed public safety laptops, desktop and vehicle computers. City tech workers are continuing to review potential impacts to other computers across other departments. Almost 80 of the glitched computers were police laptops and desktop devices, Gardner said.
Dallas’ IT department had received around 200 service requests from city employees reporting issues with their PCs not working and has addressed about 40% of them as of 4:30 p.m., Gardner said. He said reviews and assessments are expected to continue beyond Friday.“But because all of the patch has been updated and applied, it’s highly unlikely we’re going to see any kind of significant uptick…that could be impacted beyond this,” Gardner said..
