Multiple people were pulled from debris-filled homes in Gaithersburg , Maryland , after a tornado touched down in Montgomery County , causing trees to fall onto the houses Wednesday evening.
The National Weather Service warned the county's residents to take shelter, as a tornado at a speed of 25 mph touched down, hitting several areas and causing structural damage to several buildings. Several people were entrapped in their homes and later taken to a nearby hospital with injuries, said Pete Piringer, Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire.Montgomery County officials declared a "Condition Red" -- which means available fire and rescue resources are scarce, compared to the calls and emergencies received.
"That's our main concern: everybody's safety," Piringer said. "Now, I think there's a lot of danger as far as it's getting dark. There's lots of wires down, a lot of debris. It's pretty dangerous situation for everyone. So, we're asking people to stay away."7News traffic specialist reported a road closure between Bucklodge Road and Whites Ferry Road in Montgomery County, Maryland due to the the home's collapse.
