'People ask me about jobs like Mamma Mia and Harry Potter, and things like that, and it feels like it should be someone else answering, not me.’
While talking to Lorraine, the actress confessed: ‘Since the cancer, I’ve felt like that was a different person, the person who was acting the whole time., and things like that, and it feels like it should be someone else answering, not me.’The mother-of-one went onto say how she’s been enjoying lockdown and revealed spending time at home has made her want to take on fewer projects on the other side of the crisis.
She initially suffered from mild symptoms of indigestion and ‘slight discomfort’, before she started to get stomach pain, heartburn which sometimes caused her to be sick.Talking to Victoria Derbyshire about getting her diagnosis, she said: ‘I was still thinking, “That’s ridiculous, he must have made a mistake”. I couldn’t believe it.’
The Paddington star explained how she missed the Mamma Mia 2 premiere, with her team saying she had suffered a ‘ruptured hernia’ to stop tongues wagging. Scenes from her recent project, The Secret Garden, with Colin Firth also had to be cut as she underwent treatment.And it seems Dame Julie might be taking a step back from the limelight for a while, a she noted: ‘I’m not saying I’ll never act again.
‘But I certainly don’t think I can go back to [a film that requires working] six days a week, five in the morning till seven o’clock at night.’
