Dan Evans fumes at 'disruptive' and 'wrong' umpiring decision after crashing out of French Open 🟢From jamesgraysport at Roland Garros:
“If they’re going to call that foot fault, it shouldn’t be from 35 meters away, from fence to fence through a net. But, again, that’s not the reason I lost, but I was right in the match at that point.
“But they find a way of getting involved. Whoever it is up in the chair, they find a way, and they’re good at it. They get involved plenty.Evans lashed out at a water bottle in frustration and was warned for unsportsmanlike conduct, for which he will receive a fine of several thousand pounds against his €69,000 prize money after defeat in the first round.
He has struggled all year, winning just eight of his 23 matches, with a run to the third round of the Australian Open and the semi-finals in Barcelona the only moments of much success. “I’ve got to get my game in a spot where I’m able to compete at this level. I’ve been very poor in the big tournaments this year,” Evans added.
“It’s shocking right now how I played today. It’s disappointing. [My game] – I thought – is in a good spot coming in, but I felt like that the whole time. It’s not good enough.”
