Dancing On Ice's Nile Wilson recalls 'drinking for two weeks straight' after injury
Dancing On Ice star and former Team GB Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson has opened up about the mental health issues he faced after sustaining a neck injury that forced him to retire from the sport.
Speaking on the Priory Group podcast Sporting Highs and Lows, he revealed that in the aftermath of his injury he turned to booze and gambling as he awaited surgery. It was around this time that he also began to experience suicidal thoughts. Reflecting on his mental health struggles around the time of his injury, and his subsequent retirement, he said: "I felt months of anxiety and I couldn't understand why."
"This is a really cool thing. I've certainly not done much ice-skating but I am so excited for the opportunity. I’m so excited to get into that routine and to feel like an athlete again."
