The man, already banned from driving, dumped his van outside a Tesco and hid from police in a bush
An "extremely dangerous" driver dumped his van outside a Nottingham Tesco during a police chase and tried to hide in a bush. The man, who had already been banned from driving, drove at high speed through residential streets and passed straight through give way junctions in a van believed to have been fitted with fake number plates.
Police spotted the plates and told AJ Davidson, 26, of Millers Green, to stop at around 6pm on June 29. Davidson instead sped along Roseleigh Avenue at speeds of over 50mph, recklessly overtaking other vehicles in the process. Cutting across a grass verge on Foxhill Road East, Davidson eventually abandoned his vehicle outside a Tesco superstore. Officers eventually found Davidson in a bush after a tip-off from a member of the public.The 26-year-old initially denied being the driver of the vehicle, but later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, and failing to provide a specimen of breath. Appearing at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on July 1, Davidson was jailed for six months.
PC Cara Allsop, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was an extremely dangerous display of driving that could easily have resulted in serious injury or worse. By driving through residential streets at such high speed, Davidson – a man already banned from driving – showed a chilling disregard for the safety of other road users and pedestrians."
