Glen Widdowson, 48, of Addington Court, Radcliffe-on-Trent, pleaded guilty
A BMW driver who was behind the wheel and driving dangerously when he killed a mother-of-two will go to prison. A bearded and suited on Thursday to causing the death of Aimi McCaffery by dangerous driving.
Widdowson was charged after Mrs McCaffery, aged 46, from Cropwell Butler, died after she was hit by his BMW on Radcliffe Road, Cropwell Butler, at around 8.50am on May 15, 2022, despite the efforts of passers-by and the East Midlands Ambulance Service. He has been remanded into custody to be sentenced on September 26. Judge Nirmal Shant KC told him: "Although I have allowed time for your team to harness any mitigation they went to put before the court, there can only be one outcome in this case, and the issue is only one of length of sentence."I am prepared to give them time to prepare any mitigation for you. There is an interim disqualification - you won't be in a position to drive in any event".
An inquest opened into Mrs McCaffery's death last September. Mrs McCaffery, described by her family as “a wonderful mother, wife, daughter and loving friend”, died from the resulting injuries. Officers and paramedics were called to the scene, where she died from her injuries.
