Sunderland defender pays tribute to Cathcart who announced his retirement last month
Daniel Ballard paid tribute to Craig Cathcart following his decision to retire from football, but insisted he is determined to "step up" to fill the void in the Northern Ireland squad left by the experienced defender's departure.
"He has now made his decision so there is the space for other players to step up and carry on where he left off really."It's a shame he has retired but someone has to step up now and I want to be that person." "It's been pretty good, the whole team has been good this season, we've had some good results," said Ballard.
"I think you can see with my performances this year that I have been enjoying it and looking forward to the games."
