A few years ago, writer Danielle Gay was working at Vogue Australia and living on Gadigal land in Sydney with her fiancé."From there my life just changed and went in a whole different direction," she says.
The beauty and lifestyle writer shares the small daily and weekly rituals that have become part of her life since.What really helped me in the early stages was going to yoga and Pilates. My best friend and I also have a Wednesday night date together every week. It's in the calendar and we watch a movie, and we cook for each other. It's at my house one week and hers the next.Living in a big city like Sydney can feel difficult sometimes. I think finding those places where you feel really connected to people — like a cafe lots of people work from — is important, especially when you're freelancing and might not talk to anyone else in the day.
I've meditated on aeroplanes. I've mediated at the SCG during an NFL game. I've meditated in some very funny and interesting places.I have a rule where I don't allow phones in the bedroom. I put my phone on sleep mode and charge it outside the bedroom. I have a little alarm clock — that's everyone's first question.I like to go to bed at 9pm, read for an hour and sleep by 10. I find if I take my phone with me, I will just scroll on it like everyone else.
