County Antrim swimmer heads to her second Olympic Games this summer after tough personal battle
Danielle Hill has opened up on her own personal battle away from swimming which almost led to her walking away from the sport.
In an interview with BBC Sport NI the 24-year-old disclosed it had been building for a couple of years. Hill reached out for help with a former Irish Olympian there to give her the support she needed.Read next: Irish League referee caught up in ugly scenes after UEFA Conference League tie "We brought Jessie Barr on board, who is an ex-Olympian and the first conversation that we had, all she did was listen. I was in tears for I think the whole session.
"I was struggling, it’s part of sport, it’s part of life, but reaching out was the best thing I’ve ever done. Then we had to learn we have to take this step by step, day by day, and thankfully we are reaping the rewards of it now."
