The eight-part series is based on the novel of the same name by Jilly Cooper and is part of the author's Rutshire Chronicles.explores the ruthless world of independent television in 1986 , specifically in the fictional county of Rutshire.
Tennant stars as Lord Tony Baddingham, the controller of Corinium Television. His long-standing rivalry with neighbour Rupert Campbell-Black , a Tory Member of Parliament and ex-Olympian, is about to come to a head over the station's future.'s Aidan Turner will play TV presenter Declan O'Hara, who gets caught in the crossfire between Tony and Rupert.
Victoria Smurfit will play Maud O'Hara, a former actress and Declan's bohemian wife, while Bella Maclean plays Declan and Maud's elder daughter Taggie, who holds the O'Hara family together. Dyer plays Freddie Jones, a self-made electronics millionaire who's described as 'honourable, loyal and lovable'. Freddie feels like an outsider in Rutshire until Rupert and Tony come to him with a business proposition that could change everything.
