Bristol’s skyline has been filled with hot air balloons marking the start of the annual balloon fiesta, including a very special guest – Darth Vader.
The 41st annual festival began at 6am on Thursday with its first mass ascent of balloons of all colours, shapes and sizes. An incredible Darth Vader balloon was seen flying across Bristol for the first time after a successful crowdfunding drive to bring the balloon back to the city it was made in.The scarily accurate representation of the villain was made by Cameron Balloons in 2007, the world’s largest hot air balloon manufacturer and based in Bristol.Six weeks before the festival, organisers called on the community to bring the floating villain’s head home after 12 years.
Incredible pictures show the various balloons inflating as the sun rose on Thursday before the maiden voyage of the festival. As well as bringing thousands of people to Bristol, each year the spectacular event raises money for charity.
