It’s made clear in both Legends and canon continuity that Darth Vader is hunting Jedi across the cosmos not just because he hates every last one of them, but because he’s not so secretly hoping he’ll eventually find Obi-Wan Kenobi. Vader is obsessed with killing Obi-Wan in those early days of his Star Wars history, so when he does finally encounter him on the Death Star in A New Hope, Darth Vader finally got what he’d been yearning for all those years.
