Ian Doyle takes a statistical look at Liverpool's promising start to the season after eight Premier League fixtures
So far, so good. Liverpool FC Reloaded might not be fully firing just yet, but their ammunition is already giving Premier League rivals cause for concern.
Reasons for encouragement, for sure. But closer analysis of the statistics highlight areas where Liverpool clearly can do better, along with others in which their success may come as a surprise.READ MORE: Howard Webb claim sparks challenge from Liverpool fans and former referee Indeed, while their xGD - expected goal difference - is the fifth highest, away from home it is actually in the negative and behind neighbours Everton. Well clear at the top of that metric are Manchester City and Arsenal, the two teams expected to challenge strongest for the Premier League title once again.
In terms of attacking dribbles, Liverpool's success rate is among the lower half and only Luton and Sheffield United players end up being tackled more often in such plays. But it hasn't helped that Klopp's side are conceding more fouls per game than everyone but Brighton, Bournemouth and Wolves. Teams are also winning more tackles against the Reds than anyone bar Bournemouth, which does point to the issue of not having a dedicated defensive midfielder with Alexis Mac Allister among the top five players for fouls committed this campaign, surprisingly only one offence ahead of Luis Diaz.
