Darwin Nunez has sent a heartfelt message after scoring in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. The Uruguayan netted his third goal of the season after being recalled to Arne Slot’s starting XI. In truth, the 25-year-old could have scored a hat-trick during his 65 minutes on the pitch. But he did open the scoring with a well-taken strike after Mohamed Salah had seemingly been fouled by last man Leon Bailey.
After the majority of Nunez ’s team-mates ran over to celebrate with the striker in front of the Kop, he broke away to pick up a loose ball balanced on top of a cone behind the goal, before putting it under his shirt, sucking his thumb and pointing to his family in the crowd and making a heart with his hands. Unsurprisingly, Nunez has now confirmed that his partner, Lorena Manas, is expecting their second child together, with his goal celebration pre-empting such an announcement.
