All travellers from Britain to EU countries will need to apply for an ETIAS document
Brits flying to EU countries will soon have to pay for a travel document or they will be denied entry.
The new European Travel Information and Authorisation System document is in addition to the passport and needs to be bought in advance. It is a travel permit which has been brought in following Brexit and costs about £6 for everyone over the age of 18. An ETIAS document allows travellers to stay in Europe for 90 days and they are valid for three years. When applying for one checks will be carried out and they are in place to allow people to travel to countries like Spain, Portugal and France which are all popular holiday destinations.The documents were originally due to be introduced last year but they will now be introduced in 2024. It is a digital document and travellers need to apply online when the scheme launches.
There are a number of reasons why people could be denied an ETIAS such as giving incorrect information on your application, if are travelling from an area which could be a danger to public health or if you are a convicted criminal or on a travel watchlist. Anyone travelling to these countries from 2024 will need to apply for an ETIAS document. The countries are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
