With every step across the stage, Drake Mantheiy will be concentrating on how far he's come.
The road to high school graduation hasn't been easy for a Dauphin County teen.It's a milestone 17-year-old Drake Mantheiy almost didn't reach.'I've had complications and ups and downs, especially with my health stuff. It's made it harder to do the work,' he said.Mantheiy was diagnosed with the neurological disorder hydrocephalus as an infant. He's faced dozens of surgeries and medical tests.
Along with getting his diploma from the Derry Township School District on Wednesday, he has another big goal in mind.'To walk across the stage to show how far I've come through the struggles I've gone through. I haven't really walked in two years,' he said.His family said Mantheiy is an example not only to them but to others who face similar struggles.'Success is possible despite having a critical illness and being in and out of the hospital,' his mom said.
