Foo Fighters concert on July 23 in Hershey“I want to dedicate to a family member,” he said. “I don’t know if you guys know this, but my family has deep, deep history here in Pennsylvania.”

Grohl then explained that his paternal grandmother’s maiden name was Bonebrake, and that they emigrated to the colony of Pennsylvania prior to the American Revolution. “They settled around here somewhere,” Grohl said. “And I do have a family member named Henry Bonebrake. And he’s actually a Civil War hero. He’s got a monument not far from here, you can look it up.”was born in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, and lived in Franklin County. He was a member of the 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry, where he earned the rank of First Lieutenant.

Bonebrake’s service during the Civil War was notable in particular due to his actions during the Battle of Five Forks, where he fought hand-to-hand with a Confederate soldier to capture the enemy’s battle flag.. The citation, which is the highest military honor that the United States can bestow, was awarded to Bonebrake in 1865.

“So tonight, I want to send this one to Henry Bonebrake, who got the Congressional Medal of Honor in the Civil War,” Grohl said. “It’s American history, and I’m proud to say it’s in my family.
