Mr Cameron said: “It will help to fuel the views of those who argue that we can no longer think or act for the long-term as a country; that we are heading in the wrong direction.” Under Mr Sunak’s plans, a new £2bn station will be built at Bradford, including a new rail line that will run to Manchester, while £2.5bn will be provided to deliver a long-promised new tram system in Leeds and a further £3bn for upgraded and electrified lines between Manchester and Sheffield, Sheffield and Leeds, Sheffield and Hull and Hull and Leeds.
According to No10, the Euston project will be delivered via a new public/private investment scheme, similar to that used in Battersea Power Station and Canary Wharf and could be as much as five times bigger than the King’s Cross redevelopment.
