The PGMOL have terminated David Coote's employment with immediate effect
Premier League referee David Coote has been fired by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited following a series of controversies surrounding his behaviour. A statement from the PGMOL read: "Following the conclusion of a thorough investigation into David Coote's conduct, his employment with PGMOL has been terminated today with immediate effect.
The 42-year-old was initially suspended by the PGMOL in November after an old video clip surfaced on social media, showing him using derogatory language to refer to former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Coote was then embroiled in further controversy when another video clip allegedly showed him snorting a white powder.
He continued: "I have always held the integrity of the game in the highest regard, refereeing matches impartially and to the best of my ability." Further claims surfaced suggesting Coote might have discussed the possibility of booking Leeds defender Ezgjan Alioski with an acquaintance prior to refereeing one of their matches. United released a statement following Coote's allegations. It read: “Leeds United are aware of the allegations regarding the conduct of a match official, involving our EFL Championship fixture with West Bromwich Albion in October 2019.
