Gray says he IS the right man after Foley appeared to question his appointment
The minority shareholder this week accused the Easter Road hierarchy of not listening to him and his Black Knights consortium, who have two members on the Hibees' board after purchasing a 25 per cent stake in the club. Bournemouth owner Foley reckons Hibs would be doing better if they had taken on board his advice, speaking after a shock 1-0 Premier Sports Cup defeat to Kelty Hearts.
It's understood Foley and his Black Knight colleague were NOT in favour of Scottish Cup winning legend Gray replacing Nick Montgomery in the dugout, and had alternative candidates for the sporting director role Malky Mackay took up over the summer. Gray has now responded to Foley's claims following a 302 friendly defeat at home to Watford, and insists his focus is on his own job and proving CEO ben Kensell and director Ian Gordon were right to hand him the reins.
On Bill Foley’s comments, Gray said: “I’ve got enough going on in terms of the weekend and results and where we are. My job is fully focussed on preparing the team as best I can. "The hierarchy at the football club, that is all above my head and I need to concentrate fully on what I am trying to do every single day. What I do know is that I’ve gone through the process and been given this opportunity because the club believe I was the right man to take it forward and I firmly believe in my ability to do that. It is up to me now to go and demonstrate that.
On the game he said: “It’s a decent enough wee run out, got all the boys' minutes. It's a massive box ticked in terms of getting minutes into the boys. Obviously, you don't want to lose games of football, that's not something you want to become a habit.
