The Blues crash out of UEFA Conference League as Stjarnan grab late winner at Windsor Park
David Healy couldn't help feel he had seen it all before as Linfield's journey in the UEFA Conference League came to an abrupt end at the first hurdle.
But Linfield rallied again with goals from 17-year-old Matthew Orr and striker Matthew Fitzpatrick on 70 and 75 minutes to level the tie. It looked like there was only going to be one winner at that stage, but late, late drama was to follow as Stjarnan caught the home side on the break with Hilmar Halldorsson firing in an 88th minute winner to leave Healy a very frustrated figure at the end.
"We’ve a new back-four playing with Ryan McKay, Sam Roscoe, Scot Whiteside and Ethan McGee. The frustrating thing is the manner of the goals. We got what we craved with the early goal...we probably didn’t capitalise on the other moments we had in the first-half. "You have to hand the players a lot of credit – they stuck at it, we changed shape a little bit, changed one or two and got our joy and goals. The frustrating thing is the tie is level again and somehow we found a way to concede in the manner we conceded.
