Dublin are the latest county on the lookout for a new manager after Micheál Donoghue stepped down

Three huge inter-county hurling jobs are up for grabs in the coming weeks with the news that Micheál Donoghue has left the Dublin post.

Donoghue’s proven pedigree in helping his native county land a first All-Ireland senior title in 29 years - and lead them to the following season’s final - leaves him the standout candidate if he wants the job again. With his track record of building and improving sides, the double All-Ireland winning goalkeeper, who recently stepped aside after two years in Waterford, looks an ideal fit for Dublin.

Speaking about his future, he told Red FM: "I don't know just yet. My intention definitely was to take a small bit of a breather and it was great. I got a number of weeks there where I had no one talking to me.Fitzgerald was believed to be the frontrunner for the Galway post when Henry Shefflin got the nod three years ago. Galway’s desire to go within may rule him out of the running here.

The way Ballygunner are coached and their success in landing an All-Ireland title, three Munster Championships in a row and 10 Waterford titles on the bounce makes their manager, Darragh O’Sullivan a prime candidate. Another potential candidate could be former player Peter Queally who was a coach alongside Fitzgerald and previously went for the post, while Tony Browne was working with Tipperary this year.
