Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi praises Mason Greenwood's goal-scoring but expresses frustration with his corner-taking abilities.
Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi has expressed his frustration with Mason Greenwood 's corner-taking abilities, despite the former Manchester United forward's impressive goal-scoring record since joining the French club. Greenwood has netted 13 goals in 21 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille following his £26.6 million transfer from United in the summer. His permanent move came after a loan spell with Getafe in La Liga.
Greenwood was suspended by United in 2022 after facing charges of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior. While he denied these allegations and the charges were subsequently dropped, he was not offered a return to the Manchester United team. Greenwood has seamlessly adapted to life in France, even drawing comparisons to legendary striker Didier Drogba. He matched Drogba's impressive feat of scoring 13 goals in 20 appearances earlier in the season, contributing to Marseille's position as league runners-up. In the new year, Greenwood has continued his strong form, scoring three goals and providing two assists in six games. However, following Marseille's 2-0 victory over Angers on Sunday, De Zerbi singled out Greenwood's corner-taking as an area needing improvement. 'Greenwood is not a specialist on corners,' De Zerbi admitted to the media. 'He could become one, but he is focused on the goal. When he goes to take a corner, he goes a bit like... And that annoys me.' Despite this minor criticism, Greenwood's goal-scoring prowess has been instrumental in Marseille's success this season, propelling them into a strong position to secure a return to the Champions League next season. His focus on attacking and finding the back of the net has undoubtedly been a key factor in his impressive performances
