An oil tanker truck exploded near the international airport of Karachi killing two people and injuring ten, Pakistan i media has reported, citing the regional internal affairs minister as saying the explosion was a terrorist act. The attack, Zia Hassan Lanjhar, Home Minister of the Province of Sindh said, targeted a foreign national traveling in a car in the vicinity of the airport where the tanker truck was parked.
“We are determining the nature and reasons for the blast. It takes time,” a local police official told the media, as quoted by CNN. Earlier this year, a suicide terrorist attack on Chinese workers in Pakistan killed five, prompting calls by the Chinese government for Pakistani authorities to boost security measures around Chinese nationals working in the country. There are plenty of these, as Pakistan is one participant in Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative.
