The woman told Coleen: 'Everyone appears to have moved on yet I’m still upset'
in August and I’m very happy for him and his fiancée, who is adorable. They’re a match made in heaven, which is a dream come true for any parent.
My problem is, my son’s father and his “new” wife are going to be there and have a prominent role at theThey’re sitting at the top table with me and I’m not sure I can handle it, as I hate my ex’s wife because she’s the reason my marriage ended in 2018. The years since have been hard, trying to process what happened and recover from it all, and I’m stillEveryone else appears to have moved on, including my son, who doesn’t seem to understand why I’m so upset.
I should be looking forward to this wedding but, instead, I’m dreading it. How can I enjoy this special day when she’ll be sat across the table from me? What am I supposed to say to her? The split was acrimonious for obvious reasons, so I have no relationship with the wife and only speak to my ex when it concerns our children.
I’d love some advice. Oh, stop it! Get out of the mindset of “she’s” responsible for everything. It takes two to have an affair and your ex is equally culpable.
Remember his part in this and that as much he was lying to you, he was also lying to her, probably telling her all sorts about the state of your marriage – you weren’t sleeping together, you led separate lives and so on. Now what you should do is put your glad rags on then go and win an Oscar for your performance, so everyone looking at you will think how wonderful it is that you’re doing great and look so happy.
I know from experience it’s a big ask, but it’s also the best feeling in the world when you do it. You don’t need to have a full conversation with your ex or his wife – just say a polite hello. And, once the sit-down bit is over, you don’t have to be near them again.
