Father Savin was a lifelong campaigner for the homeless and a one-time Chaplain of Barlinnie.
Renowned Glasgow priest Father Willie Slavin has died. The Archdiocese of Glasgow confirmed the churchman passed away at St Margaret's Hospice on Friday.
In 1992, Father Slavin became a parish priest at St Alphonsus at The Barras and worked as a consultant on drug problems to Notre Dame Child Guidance Clinic’s Adolescent Unit, Fern Tower. A very active man he took up football at 40, cycled to Cologne for the Make Poverty History demo, peddled the Camino Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, Land’s End to John O’Groats and the C2C trail in the North of England.
