A death investigation of a South Carolina paramedic has been linked to the fatal shooting of a New Mexico State Police officer, police confirmed.
Deaths of NM officer, SC paramedic are connected cases, police say New Mexico State Police Officer Justin Hare was shot and killed Friday morning near Tucumcari, according to NMSP.
After police spotted Smith driving the patrol car at a high rate of speed, Smith crashed the patrol car. The car was later discovered by state police, but only Hare was found inside of the car. Jaremy Smith, we are coming for you. I implore you to turn yourself in, but if he does not, I promise you, we will find him," said Weisler. "There's nowhere you can run. There's nowhere you can hide that we will not find you."Smith is also a person of interest in the death of missing paramedic Phonesia Machado-Fore in South Carolina.
Federal, state and local authorities conducted a multi-jurisdiction investigation that led to an arrest warrant for Smith. Officials say over the course of the investigation, information led law enforcement to a property in Dillon County where Machado-Fore was located.Erwin said according to Machado-Fore's family, she had recently accepted a job to work in Minnesota, where one of her daughters currently lives.
