The national energy regulator says a high court has approved its request for more time to consider the utility's revenue application for a 32% tariff hike.It says a decision on Eskom's application for the 2023/ 2024 financial year will now be made by the 12th of January.
Meanwhile, think tank the Free Market Foundation believes one way to ensure a stable supply of power is to privatise the country's grid. We've been hit by back-to-back power cuts in recent weeks - with load shedding stage 4 from Wednesday until further notice. "Customers have a choice buying from competing retailers and if they are unhappy with service or the prices charged by one supplier they can easily switch to another," says the organisation's Eustace Davie.
"The South African government should look to do is to sell off the grid, they could even approach the company that handles the grid in the UK."
