In her first television interview since her expulsion, Moira Deeming insists she has the support of ordinary members of the Liberal Party and not the “less than 20” in parliament who kicked her out.

“I believe in the Liberal Party values. I do think that we are the party that has the best political philosophy to help run a fair and balanced society,” she said.

“So I've got no intentions of abandoning the party. And this decision was made by less than 20 people from Spring Street and I don't believe that it reflects the will of the membership. “And so I'm just going to carry on and do my very best to be the best MP that I can be for all the people who wanted me to come here.”

Speaking more broadly on her expulsion, Ms Deeming said she has received a “huge amount” of support and that her phone rings all day.“I'm so grateful for all the support everybody's given me and I'm very moved.Opposition Leader John Pesutto described Friday’s vote as a “turning point” to reform the troubled and unsuccessful Liberal Party in the state."I am leading the process but I am pleased with the outcome we were able to achieve.

Ms Deeming is suspected to have been expelled for violating Clause 57 of “bringing discredit on the Parliamentary Party” following a threat of legal action against both Mr Pesutto and the Liberals.

‘Hell of a strong woman’: Moira Deeming praised for defending women’s rights‘Hell of a strong woman’: Moira Deeming praised for defending women’s rightsExpelled Liberal MP Moira Deeming is a “hell of a strong woman” for standing up for women’s rights, despite receiving criticism from trans-activists and political peers, says Sky News contributor Katherine Deves. “What the detractors don’t understand is that you’ve got mothers who are standing up for their children, you’ve got women who are standing up for their legal status as women and these are not issues that we’re going to back down on,” Ms Deves told Sky News Australia host Rowan Dean. “We have all these women who are speaking up on this issue who are currently being publicly persecuted and all that we are doing is standing up and saying, ‘we need to have safeguards in place for women and children’. “We need to have sex-based rights for women and children.”
