Cricket: South Australian stars Travis Head and Alex Carey have given Tim Paine a ringing endorsement, after he was announced as the new Adelaide Strikers coach

Head & Carey thrilled with Paine signing | 00:59Queensland Cricket has taken aim at the state government’s decision to not rebuild the Gabba after Cricket Australia confirmed the iconic venue would not host a Test match during the 2026/27 summer.

Earlier on Sunday, Chair of Queensland Cricket Kirsten Pike and Queensland Cricket chief executive Terry Svenson released an open letter confirming Brisbane would not host Test cricket in 2026/27, marking the first time since 1976/77 the Gabba has not featured in a Test summer. “Major stadiums in other States are now considered more commercially attractive and fan friendly to host cricket compared to the Gabba,” the letter stated.

“And while not being unduly alarmist, the potential outcome of this continuing uncertainty could have a significant impact on participation statewide and fan engagement across men’s and women’s cricket. Adelaide Oval will host ‘Christmas Test’ in December each year from the 2025/26 season, while Perth Stadium has been guaranteed the first men’s Test of the summer until 2026/27.
