Responding to Senator Lambie's accusation Australia’s top brass have been given 'free pass” on war crimes allegations, Defence Minister Richard Marles revealed the government is considering recommendations on the 'accountability of commanders'.
Independent Senator Jackie Lambie made the allegation in the Senate chamber on Tuesday, claiming there had been a “culture of coverup at the highest levels” of the Australian Defence Force and revealing that she had referred ADF leadership to the International Criminal Court .

Picture: NCA NewsWire / Gary Ramage “The Chief of the Defence Force has been pursuing a process in respect of command accountability consistent with the recommendations of the Brereton report,” he said When asked why the process was taking so long, Mr Marles said the seriousness of the allegations meant that the process needed to be done “thoroughly and properly.”
