The Substance follows aging starlet Elisabeth Sparkle (Moore) as she undergoes a clinical procedure promising to create a 'better version of you'. Things take a dark turn when Elisabeth's other half, Sue (Margaret Qualley), cannot maintain the balance demanded by the substance, leading to disastrous consequences.
