Michael AdkisonOne of the most closely watched elections, not just in Austin but in the entire state, this upcoming March 5 is the race for the Travis County District Attorney's office, in which incumbent José Garza faces a primary challenge from criminal defense attorney Jeremy Sylestine.
"It’s not surprising that Republican voices, pieces of the Republican infrastructure, are working to influence a Democratic primary in Travis County," Garza told CBS Austin. "You can look at the national trends, but the fact of the matter is that Austin and this community stands out across the country for how safe our community is"
In a Democratic stronghold like Austin and Travis County, there's a significantly likely chance the victor in the primary election, set for March 5 with early voting currently underway, will be the victor in November's election. As such, the primary election is made more significant as, effectively, choosing a likely office holder.
