Sefton Council said they are 'disappointed' the owners decided to demolish the building
Part of Bootle is to undergo a significant change to its skyline after demolition works began on a well-known office block. It is not the first time a structure has been demolished on this site after 'Britain's sickest building' was torn down there in 2001. For many younger residents in Bootle , the area around Merton Road will soon be unrecognisable as St Johns House is torn down after more than twenty years of providing working space.
After a series of investigations, the old St Johns House was finally demolished in 2001 after many years of campaigning from local officials and resident groups. The newly built St Johns House was commissioned to replace available office space and millions of pounds was invested in construction, maintenance and refurbishment. However, after little more than twenty years, the owners of the site decided to demolish the building and works are currently underway.
