The former World champion can see why modern day snooker players invest so much in sports psychology
Dennis Taylor believes the role of sports psychology in modern day snooker is important for players looking to reach the top. Antrim cue star Mark Allen is just one of the leading stars who has worked on the mind games in recent years.
Former World champion Taylor admits sports psychology "didn't happen so much" when he was playing, but he can see why it is such an invaluable tool in the modern game. Taylor told Belfast Live via Lucky Block: “Listen, it didn't happen so much in our game back 40 years ago. Very rarely. Frank Allen was the great coach from Blackpool who coached a lot of the world champions. He touched on psychology a little bit. You did your own sort of psychology, you had to work it out for yourself.
“I think it does help the players too, because the mental side of it plays a huge part. These players, you watch them in practice, they'll make hundreds after hundreds. They are unbelievable.
