Motorists should only travel between areas of Kilgetty and Red Roses in south east Wales if absolutely necessary, according to local police. The Met Office has also said murky fog patches could settle on roads across the country.
The RAC has predicted that Brits will make almost four million road trips today as they head home from Christmas getaways. However, drivers should aim to avoid major roads during the hours of 10am to 3pm, when traffic will likely build up. Additionally, engineering work is also taking place at Liverpool Street, Paddington and St Pancras. While major signalling work in Crewe and Cambridge could also affect services across the north west and east of England. The weather forecast today (December 27) is said to be cloudy with mist and fog patches throughout the day in parts of England and Wales. There could also be rain across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. This warning of dense fog comes after reports that the UK is may need to brace for a snowstorm post-Christmas as the country shivers in freezing temperatures. Weather maps and charts, based on Met Desk data by WX Charts, revealed that only one area will escape the snowfall set to hit England. The worst of the weather will occur on January 2, with up to 24cm - or nine inches - of snow expected in the hardest-hit areas. The Scottish Highlands will bear the brunt of it, with snowy conditions also predicted across the north of England, including Yorkshire and the North East and North West. The maps indicated that snowfall between 1cm and 3cm will be widespread in England - but one area is set to dodge it. Early forecasts suggest that the central and west Midlands, particularly around Birmingham, are unlikely to see any snow at all
