As the rest of the country debates the Voice referendum, there is little to no evidence of a Yes or No campaign in this Queensland city, according to locals.

abc.net.au/news/queensland-indigenous-voice-referendum-misinformation-mt-isa/102744202The modern mining city of Mount Isa lies on Kalkadoon lands, more than 900 kilometres west of Townsville, in arid country that borders the Northern Territory.

Even at Mount Isa's annual rodeo — an event which sees the population swell from 21,000 to over 40,000 — discussion on the Voice to Parliament was all but absent. Jacob Takurit works with MOB FM Indigenous radio in Mount Isa. He said the radio station will start to ramp up its efforts to educate listeners.According to recent census data, 22 per cent of Mount Isa's population is Indigenous, prompting Mr Takurit to call for more community discussion about the Voice.

"There has been a lot of money pumped into our mob and you don't see too many outcomes, so hopefully better decisions are made, and they can actually affect us and improve lives and livelihood."Valerie Craigie said she wants people to look at facts and stop listening to rumours and misinformation about the Voice.

Linda Burney in ‘deep denial’ over the Voice referendum: Rita PanahiLinda Burney in ‘deep denial’ over the Voice referendum: Rita PanahiSky News host Rita Panahi says Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney could be in 'deep denial' over the Voice to Parliament. “How can she possibly say “I have absolutely no doubt” about the ‘Yes’ vote prevailing when we've just had four major polls, all of these polls have shown that the ‘Yes’ vote is failing and failing rather spectacularly,” Ms Panahi said. “Is Minister Burney deliberately misleading the party faithful or does she believe that the massive warchest that the ‘Yes’ campaign has, the corporate support from the likes of the AFL, NRL and Qantas is going to get the ‘Yes’ vote over the line?”
