According to the sheriff, Atwood initially denied having any knowledge of the whereabouts of the Zilliot family.Atwood allowed investigators to search the property that same day. Detectives noticed the backyard firepit was “actively smoldering and smoking,” the criminal complaint states. Atwood, who initially said he kicked out the family over failure to pay rent, reportedly folded and confessed to killing the family.
