Investigators say there are 18 victims, and they range from 13 to 60 years old.
“It’s a tragedy,” said Cpt. Andre Reid with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. “This is not something I have not personally experienced here- really in my entire career. We are working as hard as we can to get this taken care of.”that enlisted the help of several agencies across Baldwin County. Multiple ambulances and helicopters rushed the victims, ranging from 13 to 60 years old, to nearby hospitals.
“They’re at different hospitals- some in Florida, some in Mobile- so it just took us a little bit to make sure we had everyone accounted for,” said Cpt. Reid. “The survivors- most of them, I think all of them are going to recover. A few need surgery- several have superficial wounds.” Cpt. Reid says investigators believe they know who the suspect is, but they’re urging people who were at the May Day event to be transparent.
“We have over a thousand people that were there but unfortunately, no one has come forward and said- identified who the shooter is and who they shot. Unfortunately, we tend to have this culture where people don’t want to cooperate with law enforcement until it’s your family and then you want help,” said Cpt. Reid.
FOX10 News asked Cpt. Reid if there could be more victims. He says he’s unsure but there’s always the possibility some victims didn’t take themselves to the hospital or were possibly involved and choosing not to come forward.Copyright 2024 WALA. All rights reserved.
