Plans have been approved to demolish a derelict care home in Clifton, Nottingham, and replace it with a development of around 40 council houses. The former Laura Chambers Lodge has been unused since 2016 and has become a magnet for anti-social behaviour and drug use.

A woman says a derelict Clifton care home is 'attracting all the local bad people' after waking up to find that her car had been smashed whilst parked outside. Plans have now been approved to demolish the former Laura Chambers Lodge in Clifton and turn it into a development of around 40 council houses. Shut since 2016, locals say the old care home has become a magnet for anti-social behaviour and drug use .

Shareen Morris woke up on Wednesday (December 18) to find that the back window of her car had been smashed and that the clothes inside had been thrown all over the floor. The 35-year-old is a student in Birmingham and regularly commutes there from her Clifton home. Although Ms Morris is usually able to park outside her home, there were no spaces on Tuesday night and she was forced to leave her vehicle outside the old care home. Ms Morris said: 'Anything that you do with this place will be better. It's actually a beautiful bit of Clifton with the park. 'This being closed is attracting all the local bad people to meet up and take drugs together here on our doorstep. They need to do something with it because then that problem will go. 'This was a nice lovely old people's home. My uncle used to live here and it's sad it's like this.' Also backing the new council housing plans is Mitch Abbott, 29, who grew up in the Meadows and currently lives in Clifton. Mr Abbott said: 'A lot of people on the road are worried about people causing trouble. But if it's permanent then it'd be a better option. 'People will be in and out otherwise causing trouble and then disappear off the face of the planet. It'd be nice to see it turned into something.' Speaking about the regular trouble he sees at the old care home, Mr Abbott added: 'We have to sit and listen to the alarms going off. It's just not nice.' Nottingham City Council says the project, which is set to cost £10 million, will provide much-needed affordable housing in the area
