The annual appeal was the idea of the River Radio Director's young daughter Yazmin

A community radio station in Derry is continuing its annual Christmas toy appeal, with an expansion into delivering toys to children at Altnagelvin Hospital this year.

Speaking to MyDerry about the appeal, Gerard Doherty said: "Last year, we helped over 7,000 families at Christmas. All the toys that get donated stay within the North West. "This year we're making sure all the kids in Altnagelvin get a toy, we'll be going to the children's ward this year. We've expanded the appeal to the hospital this year to make sure they get something because sometimes they may be overlooked.

During the current cost of living crisis, he said the demand is strong, and they're hoping to reach more people than ever this year. This year, River Radio is running a Santa's grotto event at ToyTown and Smyth's on December 3 to ensure every child can meet Santa free of charge.
