Fifteen fire engines have been sent to the scene after the blaze broke out at 5.37pm on Monday.
And now dramatic photos has shown the smouldering aftermath of the historic venue, which has been left completely gutted. The roof and several top floors have blown out from the red hot flames as nearby scaffolding has also been ignited.
The scenes have been likened to lava, with the intense fire ravaging the historic building with embers flying out from the top. The area has also been taped off by police who remain at the scene. Nearby residents have been told to close their windows and doors as a precaution as firefighters continue to work to extinguish the flames. There are no reported injuries.A spokesperson from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said:"We were alerted at 5.37pm on Monday, September 25 to reports of a fire within Station Hotel, Ayr. Operations Control has mobilised 15 appliances to extinguish the fire.
"Members of the public in nearby housing are advised to close windows and doors as a precaution. No casualties have been reported at this time."A spokesman for ScotRail said: “Due to a fire at a property near the railway, trains are currently unable to call at Ayr station and we will be unable to until it is deemed safe to do so. All staff and customers have vacated the station. We are working closely with the emergency services.
“As a result of this incident, Glasgow Central to Ayr services will start and terminate at Kilwinning and Ayr to Stranraer services will start and terminate at Girvan. We are operating replacement buses on the affected route and rail tickets are accepted on local bus routes, including Stagecoach West and McGills, at no extra cost.”The scenes have been likened to lava
