Morecambe is seeing a busy period of regeneration activity, officials say
Developers interested in regenerating Morecambe 's former Frontierland theme park site are meeting Lancaster City Council this week. And talks on other Morecambe improvements including better transport and railway links, are under-way too, according to council officers.
"Developers are clearly showing an interest and this week's event will be the start, almost, of the Frontierland procurement process. We will be getting into dialogue and it will be a competitive process. Developers will need to up-their-gears and put their ideas to us. It's a busy week in Morecambe.
During a public question session, topics were raised including rail links. Earlier this year, a Lancaster City Council meeting called for investment in better train services and more stops between Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham. Some city councillors said modern electric battery-powered trains could be used and extra stops built without huge construction work or costs.
One man asked if there is a set of criteria which Frontierland developers will need to consider regarding social needs, young people and recreation?
