A section of the wall on Nottinghamshire's Devil's Bend collapsed on Wednesday, January 8th, leading to the closure of Town Street, Bramcote. The councillor for the area, Steve Carr, has stated that repairs are expected to take two weeks.
A councillor has revealed how long traffic disruption will last while repairs take place following another collapse of the wall on Nottinghamshire's Devil's Bend. A section of the wall fell on Wednesday evening (January 8), which led Town Street, Bramcote, to be closed. Nottinghamshire County Council said engineers were visiting the site to assess the damage on Thursday, January 9, and develop repair plans.
The spokesperson for the authority added that Town Street is due to reopen by Friday, January 10, and that temporary traffic lights will be installed. Steve Carr, Bramcote and Beeston North councillor, has now revealed how long the repairs will take. He said: 'County council engineers have determined that the latest collapse is a result of an area of sandstone which has caused a number of the herringbone stones to come down (i.e. this time it was not a failure of the wall). 'The freezing temperatures, with sandstone being permeable being a factor, coupled with the eroded area beneath the sandstone band. The contractor that carried out the repairs to the wall last April has agreed a repair methodology. 'Going forward now they will quote for the works and once a cost is agreed they can commence. They are waiting to discuss the works with their stone mason so I do not have a confirmed date yet but they have indicated 'sooner rather than later'. 'The duration of the repair works is two weeks. They indicated that they could do the work under a single-lane closure with temporary traffic lights. 'The road closure is to be removed and temporary traffic lights installed. This should be done by with added fencing protection around the area of collapse installed.' Another section of the wall fell in April last year but on Chilwell Lane, with the road remaining closed for almost three months due to repair works. A section of the wall also previously collapsed in 2021
