Vilnius plane crash: Lithuanian airport authority said the aircraft was a Boeing 737 cargo plane arriving from Leipzig
A DHL cargo plane tragically crashed into a house near the Lithuanian capital on Monday morning, resulting in at least one fatality. According to Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT, two individuals were rushed to the hospital following the crash, with one later pronounced dead.
It was reported on social media platform X that city services, including a fire truck, were promptly dispatched to the scene. FlightRadar24's flight-tracking data revealed that the aircraft veered north of the airport, aligning for landing, before crashing just over 1.5 kilometres short of the runway.
The DHL Group is based in Bonn, Germany, and the DHL aircraft was operated by Madrid-based contractor Swiftair. The Boeing 737 involved in the crash was 31 years old, an age considered older for an airframe, though not uncommon for cargo flights.
