Southern Water said it will return water to customers 'gradually' throughout the rest of the day

Laurence Bell has been forced to wade into the sea to retrieve water to keep his hotel running said on Sunday morning it was “very sorry” that people in St Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings and Westfield were still without water, later announcing supplies were gradually being restored in St Leonards and Hastings.

The pipe burst on Thursday, meaning residents were let without tap water and were left using sea and bottled water to flush their toilets. One father of a 7-year-old and 12-year-old daughter, both of whom are autistic, said he struggled to reach the bottled water stations due to the “gridlocked traffic”.the “unacceptable” turn of events had been “very tough going” on his autistic children due to how important their sense of routine is.

East Sussex County Councillor Godfrey Daniel said the impact on businesses in Hastings would be “drastic”. “Other businesses have been forced to close. I’m not worried about hygiene, we’ve given all our guests hand gel and napkins, and lots of bottled water to boil.Portable Toilets were set up around the town as residents faced no running water

“This phased return of supplies to homes and businesses will see lower-lying areas and those nearest to Beauport coming back into supply first, with the remainder following as pressure increases in the pipes between now and tomorrow morning.
